Dereham Theatre Company Norfolk
The Dereham Theatre Company (formerly Dereham Operatic Society) is a charitable Trust and was formed as long ago as 1948 and a great Dereham attraction to visit. The Theatre was to offer the local community education and enlightenment in amateur dramatic arts. This is a very grand way of saying that we were formed to entertain the people of Dereham and Norfolk!
The Dereham Theatre Company stages five productions a year which includes a musical in the autumn, a pantomime over the Christmas period and a play in the spring. The Dereham Theater’s highly regarded Youth Company, DOSYTCo (formed in 1991) stages a production at Easter time and a summer concert each year and holds regular workshops throughout the year for young people from 7 years to 19. There is something for everyone at the Dereham Theatre Company!
If you are looking or would like to join one of the premier musical and dramatic societies in Norfolk, as either a performer (we actively encourage all whatever your ability or experience, whether you are a singer, an actor, dancer, or just enjoy being on stage), backstage helper, front of house staff or just looking to purchase some tickets for our next show, you need look no further.
Actors – New members are always welcome to audition for our adult or youth company, whether you live locally or further afield. If you are under 19 on September 1st you are eligible to join our youth company (see below), which presents its own musical and concert each year. Membership is subject to Annual Subscription. Musical Directors/ Choreographers – Collaborating with experienced and versatile MDs and Choreographers has led to the success of our yearly musicals and NODA award-winning pantomime productions. Stage/ Technical Crew – A stage crew team for the Dereham Thetatre Company are always needed backstage and we can certainly provide a lot of variety! These roles sometimes involve lifting or moving scenery, but we will do our best to adapt with those who are enthusiastic and wish to be involved. There’s always plenty to do!
Support Crew – During show week, assistance is always needed to work with costume, dressing actors, props, make-up and hair teams. Our Support Crew is essential for a smooth operation to help with all manner of tasks.
Chaperoning – During workshops, rehearsals and performances all children in school year 11 and under are chaperoned. This is usually a minimum of 1 chaperone for every 12 children. All of our chaperones are required to have an enhanced DBS check completed before they are able to chaperone, which we can help you with if you do not already have one that has been completed in the last 12 months. Chaperones are responsible for ensuring that all the children are cared for, look after their general wellbeing, and escorting to and from the stage to the dressing room.
Front of House Team – Our front of house and bar team always welcome new faces to join in the buzz of activity. Duties for front of house include box office, bar/ refreshment/ ice cream sales, selling programmes and ushering. These roles are the most flexible and suitable for members with a limited amount of time to give, but wish to be involved with our friendly theatre company.
Contact us now and let us know how you would like to be involved. We look forward to welcoming you.
Whatever your reason, we hope to see you soon at the Dereham Theatre Company for a great production viewing or to become part of our great team.
